A couple weekends ago Doug and I decided to take a spontaneous trip downtown and explore Los Angeles. We don’t usually come out this way, but for some reason we felt a strong urge to get out of our “South Bay bubble”. It’s funny because not knowing anything about LA before moving here, we assumed a lot of things. We assumed that by moving to the South Bay that were in going to be in the thick of LA. We also assumed that all of LA was the same. Diverse, cultured, urban, eclectic, but that was far from the truth. LA is HUGE and even huge is an understatement and our beach town doesn’t even come close to the craziness that is downtown. After meeting and making a handful of friends here, we were exposed to what the city/county really was and as much as we can drive around and explore the areas, there are still so many hidden gems to discover. Driving around really does expose you to different lifestyles, cultures, aesthetics, and just people in general. You can be driving through a neighborhood with the most elaborate homes and a few seconds later you’re bombarded with stacked apartment buildings. There’s never a dull moment exploring where we live and I’ve grown to love the urbanism and chance to experience so many different things. For that day I chose to wear this plaid (is that plaid or gingham?) duster coat from Elan overtop a warm turtle neck sweater (the softest and stretchiest material!) to combat the cold and some of my favorite over the knee boots, which seem to go with everything lately!
