I’ve been making this pasta recipe ever since Doug and I moved in and its THE BEST!! I rarely post recipes on my blog unless they are 100% tried and true and this one is everything I could want in a pasta – super quick preparation, no crazy ingredients or seasonings, creamy texture, and melt in your mouth taste. Doug almost always clears the entire batch! It’s even better the next day…Ingredients Needed:
- 12 oz. bow tie pasta
- 5 stalks of asparagus (I didn’t have them on the day I shot this, but I love asparagus in this pasta!)
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 4 cloves garlic, finely diced
- 1/2 chopped white onion
- 1 lb. medium Italian sausage, chopped
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
- 1 (28 oz) can Italian- style plum tomatoes (pre-chopped) – You must get the Italian style kind! I tried it with regular tomatoes in a can and it wasn’t as good.
- 1 1/3 cup heavy cream – YUM
Directions:
- Boil pasta in a large pot – lightly salted. Cook till al dente and drain.
- Heat oil in large frying pan. Cook chopped asparagus.
- Cook sausage and red pepper flakes in a separate frying pan with oil, add in onion and cook until see through.
- Stir in tomatoes, heavy cream, asparagus, and salt. Simmer for 10 minutes.
- Serve with parmesan cheese and eat the whole batch!!

Hi Hayley! Thanks so much for sharing this recipe. I’ve been following you for a long time (before you were pregnant). You used to make bread from scratch (you vlogged it a couple of times). Could you share the recipe? I bought a dutch oven and have been dying to make some bread. You made it look so easy. My husband and I don’t have kids yet, I’ve had health issues. But I love LOVE watching your family. You and Doug remind me a lot of my parents because they were and are still crazy about my brother and me. Don’t worry about bad comments about your parenting or this and that. A lot of people used to criticized my parents, but my brother and me turned out great and we appreciate every single thing my parents have done for us. My mom was a stay at home mom, and her and my dad literally put her children first. I just hope I am as good as a mom as my mom. I’m glad there are still parents out there that are not self-centered. Like my mom says parents have kids but not all kids have parents. Love you guys. Sorry for the long comment. (I live in Raleigh, NC, I was so excited when you guys visited!)
Thanks for sharing th recipe + loving the new table!

Thanks for sharing this recipe….my favourite part is point #5. EAT THE WHOLE BATCH! …..lol
Hi Hayley! So I tried looking for the Italian style plum tomatoes and I can’t find them. Do you have a specific brand/store in SoCal I could find them at?
Thanks Hayley! I made this a couple days ago and am enjoying the last of the leftovers right now!! It’s sooooo good!!! I made it with light cream and mixed some extra cheese in since that’s all I had on hand. I also added waaaaaaay more asparagus but I’m veggie obsessed lol. My husband LOVED it! So did my one year old son 😀
Made this last night with brussel sprouts instead of asparagus. My husband said it’s now his favorite meal! Trying the cookies tonight 🙂
Hayley, thanks for sharing the recipe and good work.
