Now that we’ve lived in our apartment for two years we’ve been in need of a bedroom refresh. It wasn’t until we decided to upgrade our mattress that I suddenly got inspired to update the room with new bedding, decor, and pillows as well. Doug and I had been sleeping on a traditional spring mattress all our lives and after years of moving Doug’s old hand me down mattress from apartment to apartment throughout college, we knew it was time to upgrade and were interested in the other types of mattresses out there. Before starting the shopping process, I had no idea where to begin. We both knew we liked the sturdiness of our traditional spring mattress, but wanted a more cushy feel to the top and also something that was natural. After trying out different mattresses, we became hooked on Brentwood Home’s Palmetto Mattress, which is a latex based mattress made for a soft but sturdy feel. The natural latex is so supportive, perfect for Doug’s bad back, but also has two resilient natural latex layers with an extra ventilated foam layer and my favorite part is the soft Eurotop that feels like you’re sleeping on a cloud! Seriously, it’s never been harder to get up in the mornings until now! I also love that it is certified free of all unhealthy chemicals, like harmful fire retardants, phthalates, and heavy metals, which is such a necessity with our new baby coming in one month! The delivery was super quick and easy too. It was delivered to our apartment in just a few days and had free shipping! I was surprised to find the bed came delivered rolled up in a box, which actually made it that much easier when putting it on our bed frame.
I wanted to keep the room pretty neutral since there isn’t a ton of natural light to fill up the space, so we left the walls bare and opted for a crisp white quilt to top the bed. Since it rarely gets cold in Los Angeles, having just a sheet and a light linen quilt is pretty much perfect all year round. We might need an extra throw for the winter, but other than that this lightweight quilt is perfect for someone like me who is constantly changing their mind as it goes with any style. It’s also super easy to throw in the washer each week and because of it’s eco-friendly fine linen that retains its softness wash after wash. I knew I wanted to keep most of my furniture the same and just refresh some of the decor in the room so I added fresh flowers, personalized pictures, and a few pops of color here and there. So far I love how it all turned out! I’m teaming up with Brentwood Home to give away a free set of their Sonoma Sheets, so check out the rules below to enter!
